Move Ecosystem 2024 Development Prospects: Security, Interoperability, and Application Innovation Become the Focus
2024 Move Developer Conference Review: New Trends in a Key Year for the Ecosystem
The 2024 Move Developer Conference will be held in Xuhui District, Shanghai from January 13 to 14, 2024. This year's conference is themed "A Key Year for the Move Ecosystem," attracting over 2,000 registrants and more than 500 attendees, with a total online exposure reaching 100,000.
The conference invited several industry veterans, including Sam Blackshear, founder and CTO of Mysten Labs, Wolfgang Grieskamp, head of Move language at Aptos Labs, and Jolestar, founder and CTO of Rooch. The attendees engaged in an exciting discussion around Move technology, covering topics such as the future development of the Move language, the challenges of the full-chain application state, and the construction of a Move security platform based on bytecode.
Looking back at 2023, the launch of the Aptos and Sui mainnets has opened a new journey for the next billion users in Web3 services. Multiple blockchain networks using the Move language, such as Rooch, Initia, and MoveMent, have emerged one after another. Technologies such as AI and ZK have also made breakthrough advances, with various blockchain solutions based on the Move language being adopted in the industry.
Move on Sui 2024
Sam, co-founder and CTO of Mysten Labs, reviewed the development history of the Move language and looked ahead to future technological directions. From 2022 to 2023, the Move language achieved technical upgrades in object data models, programmable transaction blocks, and dynamic bytes, enhancing developer efficiency.
2023 is a high-heat year for the Move ecosystem. Sui reached over 300,000 TPS during stress testing on the testnet, and the TVL exceeded $20.2 billion, proving the security and scalability of Move. Projects in DeFi, GameFi, NFT, and others have gained more development space within the Move ecosystem.
In 2024, the Move language will develop towards greater usability and compatibility to attract more Web3 developers. Move plans to introduce zkLogin multi-signature functionality, adopting a closed-loop token standard to ensure on-chain development randomness, while accelerating the development of advanced toolkits and source code management tools, bringing new technological surprises to developers.
Building a Move Security Platform Based on Bytecode
Luis, co-founder and CEO of MoveBit, introduced the construction of MoveBit's secure platform. Through tools such as mobile scanners and the Aptos mobile analyzer, MoveBit is committed to ensuring the technical operational efficiency and transaction classification detection of the Move platform projects.
As a security audit partner collaborating with Aptos and Sui, MoveBit participated in the Move VM audit and completed the first high-quality smart contract audit within the Move ecosystem. Currently, MoveBit ranks first in the total number of audited Move ecosystem projects, detecting a total of 400 vulnerabilities, with a coverage rate of 80% for Sui Grant projects.
Luis also demonstrated the application case of the Sui Package Verifier. This tool enhances the reliability and security of smart contract evaluations, providing more convenience for developers and users.
The Journey of Plonk-verifier.move from 0 to 1
zkMove co-founder nanne007 shared the development journey of halo2-verifier. The creation of halo2-verifier allows ZkMove to be integrated into Move-based blockchains and provides a ZKP public library for the Move ecosystem.
The development of halo2-verifier has gone through five stages: deeply understanding halo2, identifying key issues, solving key issues, clarifying main components, and refining details. Currently, Halo2 is widely used in many ZK EVM solutions.
In the future, halo2 will focus on optimizing the real user experience, such as building a comprehensive ZK-email application, and expanding to other Move blockchains like Sui and Movement.
How to Introduce External Assets on Sui Using Move
The founder of omniBTC & Coming Chat, Guanghua, discussed how to introduce external assets into the Sui network. Move has high security, is developer-friendly, and offers good scalability, while Sui can achieve high concurrency, high TPS, and low latency in Object mode.
To attract external assets, Sui needs innovative applications that can meet capital trust and gather social wealth effects. The Sui official team attracts a large number of Wormhole bridge-wrapped tokens into the network through subsidies, forming a unified full-chain liquidity pool with other chains.
BEVM has proposed an innovative solution to transfer assets to other chains through a full-chain messaging protocol, and automatically circulate assets like BTC to the Move VM platform using a centralized model. Guanghua calls on developers to further explore the fusion paradigm of Sui+Move.
Asset Management Platform on Move
Mole founder Andrew introduced the Move ecological asset management platform, Mole. Mole is a DeFi protocol for balanced asset management, allowing users to deposit funds into savings accounts for stable returns.
Mole has meticulously designed user yield and on-chain asset flow strategies, ensuring user assets through various strategy combinations and providing liquid and flexible assets for collaborative projects. In the future, Mole will improve asset storage forms and profit distribution plans to deeply empower Move in the DeFi track.
How to Achieve Interactivity Between Web2 and Web3 on Sui
Joy Wang, a cryptographic engineer at Mysten Labs, shared the principles and applications of zkLogin. zkLogin, through the OpenID authentication system, has developed an asset verification method that allows users to not have to remember private keys while keeping the on-chain address unchanged.
zkLogin uses zero-knowledge proofs to protect user privacy, ensuring the correctness of RSA signature verification, token information, and nonce calculation consistency. This application bridges the gap between Web2 and Web3 for on-chain wallet asset verification and management.
Why Move is Suitable for All-Chain Games
Henry Liu, the founder of Obelisk Labs, explained the reasons why Move is suitable for full-chain game development using the Obelisk project as an example. The Obelisk Engine is a Move application framework that can be integrated with traditional rendering frameworks to develop complex applications.
The advantages of Move include extremely low transaction change costs, lower project startup costs, and ecosystem support programs. The Obelisk Engine can process the inputs of different types of games in batches through optimistic execution, supporting large-scale asynchronous transaction processing.
Exploring Aptos Move Object
Senior Engineer Eric from Alcove analyzed the architecture of the Alcove project, emphasizing its benefits from the public blockchain environment advantages of Aptos. Aptos uses a parallel transaction engine to enhance transaction throughput while leveraging the features of the Move language to improve the flexibility and security of smart contracts.
Alcove is exploring account ownership model mechanisms, focusing on object assets. In the future, Aptos Move Object is expected to promote the generation of community standards, create new forms of assets, and achieve simpler dynamic assets across the entire chain.
Programmable Flow Payments on Move
MoveFlow Co-Founder & CEO Troy introduced the MoveFlow project, which supports programmable flow payments. MoveFlow is a payment protocol that supports predefined trading rule payments based on time and events, featuring asset lists, task rewards, asset ownership, and more.
MoveFlow enables asset one-to-many transfers at low Gas fees, supporting linear ownership of digital assets and payment push for subscription information. In 2024, MoveFlow will deploy a complete product matrix on Aptos and EVM chains, pioneering new application directions for the integration of Web2 and Web3.
